This Ghillie Suit holds a special place in my heart. It was the suit I was wearing when I arrowed my first deer. It is lightweight, the woodland pattern is pretty versatile and the price is reasonable.
Like most synthetic ghillie suits, the fibers tend to tangle in brush and weeds. It’s a good suit for archery hunting from a stand, or even stationary on the ground. The sleeves are about three quarter length so they are cool for early season hunting. They do leave your hands exposed but some camouflage gloves or a few spots of camo makeup on the back of your hands take care of that. The pants have a draw string which works well as they are made of synthetic fiber and are pretty light. The coverage of this suit, especially the jacket is a little sparse, but you can always add some local vegetation. I usually just choose a nice neutral color or even camouflage shirt underneath. The cut of this suit is ok, but is definitely not a tailored fit. The pants are a little short, but the dyed fibers hang down well below the netting. The jacket is a pull-over and is a little short too, but the fibers bridge the gap. The ghillie hat/hood that comes with has netting over the face opening. I found this a little distracting so I cut the lower part off and used a couple safety pins to attach it to my favorite old baseball cap.
My impression, this ghillie suit is an excellent entry level suit with a price point to match. Most hunters and paintballers will get one to two years of use out of this suit. Coverage is a little sparse but that is not a deal breaker. The best part of this suit is definitely the price and the fact that is comes with a gear wrap.
The Sniper Ghillie Suit is a great suit for military, SWAT and surveillance applications. It is also good, though perhaps a little overkill for nature photography. I was once hunting in the rugged Badlands 30 miles from the nearest “anything” and had to resort to using my Sniper Ghillie Suit go get my truck “unstuck” after falling into a rut. But that application will not be useful to most people.
The Sniper Ghillie Suit is built on military BDUs so the base of the suit is already a proven robust design. The Jute fiber is partially woven and then sewn to the BDUS. This is a very strong design and because the base layer is not your typical netting, this also means the coverage is second to none. The cordura on the front of the suit is water repellant and has great wear characteristics. Spending hours in the prone position wither for varmint hunting or for a long prone stalk is not a problem. Since this suit is not made with a base layer of netting, it is a little less convenient to add local vegetation.
I do not wear this suit when I hunt from a treestand because there is no jute fiber coverage on the front and also because when your arms are on your lap, the cordura on cordura friction is a little noisy, at least to a deer at 20 yards. The Suit comes with a hood attached to the jacket, but I am more of a hat guy. I remove the hood and picked up a Ghillie Boonie Hat. I like to keep the jute fibers away from my ears so I can hear the animals sneaking through the forest easier.
These suits are available in 4 different colors and are available in the sizes that BDUs come in. With over 50 color/size combinations, I had no trouble finding what I needed.
My impression, this suit is probably the highest quality Ghillie Suit I have worn. The Cordura is an absolute must for varmint hunting, especially with the snow. The thumb loops are really nice for prone stalking. I wish the jacket closure wasn’t Velcro, but I am not sure there is a better solution. This suit is military grade for serious users. You will be hard pressed to find a better Sniper Ghillie Suit
The Ghillie Kit is something I recommend every ghillie suit user to do at least once. It gave me a real appreciation for how these suits are constructed. It came with enough netting to make the full length Ghillie Poncho, but I modified the plan and make a jacket and pants. The jacket was really the same as the tracker poncho and the remaining netting made the pants.
I really liked to be able to pick the colors that suit my terrain best. I used lots of tan, a little brown and some light olive and a little regular olive. The combination works great for the dry sage speckled foot hills to the badlands. It also works well in just about any grassy area, even under green grass is the dead dry grass from last year, so the tan blends nicely.
It took all of 6 hours to finish my ghillie suit. It probably would have taken a lot longer, but I recruited my brother to give me a hand. When I was done, I was very pleased with the color. I noticed that the Jute fibers in my kits have a much smoother texture than the fibers on my purchased suits. I used a small brass wire brush to “fluff” things up a bit. This helps to break up the human profile.
My improvised plan worked well but because I clearly am not a taylor, the fit is less than ideal. I can appreciate that there is some design that goes into the full purchased suits and the fit is much better. I did however get the exact color pattern I was looking for.
My impression, the Ghillie Suit Kit gives you exactly what it says. Assembly was really easy, though a bit tedious. If you require custom colors, this is probably the best way to get what you are looking for.
I have used this suit on several occasions. I primarily archery hunt, but also do some varmint hunting and paintballing using a Ghillie Suit.
Initial impressions of this suit are good. The cut is nice, and it fits comfortably. There is an inner mesh lining to keep the small bugs off. Where I live, we do not have a lot of no-see-ums, chiggers, nats, etc. What I do like about this mesh is how smooth it is. Most ghillie suits are constructed of a three quarter inch or one inch netting with the jute fiber tied to it. The Bushrag Ghillie Suit Jacket & Pants is similar, but with the addition of the no-see-um mesh. In early fall when the temps can still be in the nineties, it is nice to wear just a tee-shirt under the ghillie jacket. The design allows it to breathe well.
This Ghillie Suit performs the primary functions required, using colors that blend with the natural surroundings and disrupting the human profile of the wearer. The suit endures moderate wear and is a good choice for most hunting applications. This suit is not well suited to sniping or prone crawling as there is Jute fiber on the front of the legs and torso. The zippered jacket is easy to get off and on and the drawstring pants work pretty well. I find that natural jute ghillie suits are a bit heavy, so I usually wear suspenders under the jacket.
Overall, my impression is this Ghillie Suit is a good medium duty suit. For most hunters it will last several years. The woodland pattern is probably the most versatile but is a little greener than I would like for most of the hunting I do.
